Brother Keith In A Box
• Bro. Keith Weldon sleeps all night in a box outside the church!!!
Bro. Keith challenged Parksville Baptist with meeting a $500 goal for World Hunger. If the church reached the $500 goal, he would sleep in a box all night. Well, the church met the goal and he did sleep in a box all night long but it wasn’t what most of us expected. The box had a mattress, TV, food and drinks and many other conveniences. However, it was not an easy night for Bro. Keith because the security light kept coming on all night long. Bro. Keith was sure to catch the person walking under the light but finally figured out it was the dog. There is a lot to be learned from this situation. Bro. Keith is true to his word! He loves the Lord and loves to have fun serving Him. We should all be thankful for God’s blessings and be willing to give back and help others.
Women Mission Union (WMU): All women
of Parksville Baptist Church are encouraged to meet the second Tuesday of
each month at the church at 7pm to study missions around the world and in
the United States. Many local mission projects are supported by the WMU.
One such project is the Mile of Pennies project. Everyone is encouraged to
bring pennies! Parksville Baptist is collecting a ‘mile’ of pennies
($844.80) to provide needed resources to the children at the Sunrise
Children’s Home. Save your pennies and place in jugs provided at various
locations in the church.
Missions Trips: Parksville Baptist
members have in the past served on mission trips to New Orleans, Louisiana
and Eastern Kentucky for the past several years. This year a group of
people will be serving the mission field in Nicaguara, Central America.
Anyone interested in serving on this trip should contact Bro. Keith Weldon
at 238-7004.
Mission Support: Throughout the
year, Parksville Baptist support missions through the Southern Baptist
Convention through the Cooperative Program. Our church gives members the
opportunity to serve missions through 3 offerings: State Missions through
the Eliza Broadus offering (September), Foreign Missions through the
Lottie Moon Offering (December), and Home Missions through the Annie
Armstrong Mission Offering (March). In addition, Parksville Baptist also
provides 5% of the annual budget to the Cooperative Program, 3 % of the
annual budget to the local Associational Missions (Hispanic Ministry)
within Boyle County and surrounding areas and 2% to local missions. In
December our members prepares 65 boxes for the Operation Christmas Child
Mission Project which provides children in other countries with a
Christmas gift.
Vacation Bible School: Every year
usually in July, Parksville Baptist provides a 5 night Bible School for
children ages 3 years through 5th ‘grade. For summer 2009, the theme was
“Studio Go! Serve, Lead, Go and Give”. Over 85 children and workers were
enrolled. Children attending made 24 blankets for the Sunrise Children
Home through the mission’s project of VBS. Backyard Ministries provided a
fun evening with food and inflatable air jumps!
Rest Home Ministry: The second
Sunday of each month, Parksville Baptist provides a 2:30pm service at the
Charleston Health Care Facility in Danville. Come join us in prayer,
singing and a short message followed with a treat for each resident!
